As your lovely holiday weekend draws to end, we hope you feel satisfied, refreshed and fortified for the whirlwind of activities that await in the coming weeks! In addition to the upcoming student performances, exhibitions and general amazing arts-related activities, we want to highlight two more items...1) It's that time of year as we kick off this week with Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday (DonorsChoose with a 50% match, Facebook- $7 Million Match and Fairway's 6% cash donation to LaG)! SHOW CHOIR PERFORMING AT UWS WINTER'S EVE TREE LIGHTING & CAROLING
Students in LaG's Show Choir will be at Dante Park across from Lincoln Center tomorrow, December 3rd at 5:30 PM!. Performances, food tastings and other outdoor family fun will continue until 9:00 PM - rain or shine.

Please join us on Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:00 PM at our next PA Meeting in the Fifth Floor Cafeteria! Our guest speakers are LaGuardia's in-house College Office Advisor Ms. Devin McCray and our AP of Guidance, Ms. Shelliann Williams who will be speaking about the College process. We will also be voting as to whether the Spring SAT Day should be an instructional or non-instructional day. At any rate, there will be light refreshments for everyone - so that's reason enough to join us!
Studio Meetings will follow at 7:00 PM.
Art families are encouraged to attend the December 3rd Art Studio Meeting at 7:00 pm, where
admissions reps from Pratt and Parsons
will be discussing their programs, admissions, and portfolio requirements. Students are welcome to attend this meeting. Tech & Drama Studios are holding a joint meeting for a chance to meet other PODS/POTS while enjoying holiday sweets! There will be color-coded name-tags so that you can find parents from your grade, from other grades, and start putting (parent) faces to the names you've been hearing from your kids! The Dance Studio is hosting a Holiday Potluck and invites you to meet and mingle with your fellow dance families, and our awesome teachers. And finally, the Music Studio invites you to attend to receive information on upcoming activity, meet a new music faculty member, learn about NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) requirements, hear a student performance by one of our talented musical groups and then mingle with other parents and indulge in a little eggnog and gingerbread! How could you NOT plan to attend?

STEM RESEARCH ACADEMY AT NEW YORK CITY COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Application Deadline: December 20th
The College Now STEM Research Academy at City Tech is a two-part program designed to provide high school students with an opportunity to develop strong college level research skills by engaging in authentic science inquiry and research activities. Selected students will be enrolled into a free Spring 2020 pre-college research course. Upon successful completion of the spring course, students will have the opportunity to apply for the 2020 STEM Summer Research Internship.
The Summer Program is FREE to students. College Now covers the cost of tuition, books, and supplies. Students who participate will also receive a City Tech College ID card, free lunch, metro card, and stipend upon completion of the summer internship program. For more information and to apply!

If your student is not taking a make-up exam during Regents Week (January 21-24th) it can be a great time to see colleges and BFA programs when they are in session. There is nothing better than seeing a college WITH STUDENTS and you can only tour BFA programs during the week, so January Regents Week is the perfect time to go and airfares are cheap! The next window of opportunity is typically in February break and then April break, both very popular times!

National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Opt Out Letter
Deadline: January 10, 2020
The NSC has data on where students go to college and what types of degrees they receive from more than 3,600 colleges and universities. The NSC uses directory information from the NYC DOE to identify former NYC DOE students and to give information to the NYC DOE about where these students went to college, when they went to college, their graduation dates, and what types of degrees they received. The NYC DOE uses this information from the National Student Clearinghouse to help understand and improve students' college readiness and success.

SCHOLASTIC ART & WRITING AWARDS
Each year, the Alliance partners with more than 100
visual arts and literary arts organizations
across the country to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up) apply in 29
categories
of art and writing. In 2019, students submitted nearly 340,000 works of art and writing to the Scholastic Awards.
Submissions are juried by
luminaries in the visual and literary arts
, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Scene 1 is The New Group's innovative theater education program serving NYC public high school students. Prioritizing ensemble building and character development, students learn advanced acting, playwriting, and movement skills with seasoned professionals, including Master Classes with New Group artists. The goals of Scene 1 are to develop students' voices as emerging artists through the creation of original work that connects to their lives, to provide students with courses in acting and writing, and to create an ensemble of young artists who understand what it means to be part of a community. A WESTSIDE EXPERIMENT | YOUNG ACTORS LABORATORY
Dates: July 6-10, 13-18, 2020, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
As the parent of a theatrically inclined adolescent, IRT's Westside Ex
periment summer theater program was everything I could have hoped for. The program's adult staff never underestimated the creative abilities of the youth, and provided them with the support and skills necessary to imagine, design and perform a remarkably sophisticated multi-media theatrical experience. My daughter made many friends over the 2 weeks of the program and was able to stretch her theatrical muscles in ways she never imagined, and thoroughly enjoyed.

Garden Apprentice Program
Application Deadline: Wednesday, December 4th
The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and the environment while working in one of the most exciting public gardens in the world! Apprentices can work their way up the four-tier program, potentially earning a paid position as a Tier 4 apprentice.
If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to work with other teens, GAP may be for you.
Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November, which includes spring training, summer programming, and a weekly commitment throughout the spring and fall. See the tier descriptions for more information.

Parents, teachers, school administrators and teens from New York City are invited to learn more about the Intrepid Museum's no-cost teen leadership programs:
-Current 8th and 9th grade girls are encouraged to attend an 11:00 AM session about the GOALS for Girls six-week summer intensive program, which focuses on leadership and STEM.
-At 12:30 PM, current 9th-11th grade students of any gender are encouraged to attend a Youth Leadership Institute at Intrepid (YLI@Intrepid) session. YLI@Intrepid focuses on civics, leadership and social advocacy issues.
Both teen programs provide college and career-readiness workshops and youth development opportunities. Attendees will receive application materials and updates before
the official dissemination in January 2020.

AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY TEEN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Every year, NYC high school students can take free courses at the Museum on topics including anthropology, astrophysics, earth science, genetics, biodiversity, and more. Students have the unique opportunity to explore our halls and dioramas, go behind the scenes to our research labs and collections, as well as working with our wonderful educators and scientists to explore diverse science topics.

DISCOVER ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM

The Center for Architecture in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects New York is pleased to offer a new program for current New York City high school students interested in learning more about the field of architecture. Selected participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and on-site learning at a local architecture firm.
The
Discover Architecture! program will be held during the 2020 NYC public school mid-winter break, and selected students will attend sessions from 10am - 3pm, Tuesday, February 18th through Friday, February 21st. A mandatory orientation will be held on Monday, February 10th from 4:30 - 5:30pm.
Eligible students must be in their sophomore or junior year of high school in New York City.
We are looking for students who are most interested and/ or who would most benefit from this opportunity. While no prior experience is necessary, an interest in architecture or art is a plus.

The DOE Office of Sustainability, in partnership with Clean Green Music Machine, is providing a unique opportunity for DOE music teachers and their students to work with a professional artist to write a song that inspires change.
This experience will culminate in performing live alongside your Music Mentor at Lincoln Center on Earth Day 2020.

THE ANGELO DEL TORO PUERTO RICAN/HISPANIC YOUTH LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The institute is open to students of Hispanic heritage in grades 10 through 12. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn how a bill is passed in the State Assembly, develop writing skills, learn the art of debating, and build leadership skills. The institute begins on January 18, 2020 and culminates in a weekend trip to Albany for students in grades 11 and 12 March 7-9, 2020. To apply, students must submit a 525-750 word essay online. USDA/1890 NATIONAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships are awarded annually and must be used at one of the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Universities. Each award provides full tuition, as well as room and board, for the term of the scholarship. The scholarship may be renewed each year, contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and normal progress toward the bachelor's degree.
To be eligible for the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program scholarship a student must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
- Have been accepted for admission or currently attending one of the nineteen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Universities.
- Study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or other related academic disciplines
- Demonstrate leadership and community service
- Submit an official transcript with the school seal and an authorized official's signature
- Submit a signed application (original signature only)
Who Should Apply
The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is available to
high school seniors entering their freshman year of college and rising college sophomores and juniors.
